Cecil Hassig

November 25, 1933 — October 5, 2017

Cecil Warren Hassig, 83, of Overland Park, KS passed peacefully on October 5, 2017. Cecil was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.  He was preceded by his loving wife of 56 years, Charlotte Lorraine, his parents, Dr. Cecil Hassig and Opal; brother, Raymond; sister-in-law, Martha; niece, Claudia; and granddaughter, Julie. Cecil is survived by his son, Ken (Sandra), his daughter, Cari Hearn (Patrick), his grandchildren, Kelsey and Grant Hassig, and several nieces and nephews.

Cecil was raised in Kansas City, KS and graduated from Wyandotte High School, where he was the Captain of the football team. Later in life he enjoyed keeping in touch with many of his life-long buddies from Wyandotte. He served in the Army as a respiratory therapist and was married in 1956 to Charlotte L. Carlock. They were married for 56 years until she passed in 2012. After graduating from Kansas State, he went to Kansas University Medical School for post-graduate studies. He worked in San Francisco, Wichita, Kansas City, St. Louis, Chicago and Maryland before returning to work for Marion Scientific in KC. He retired in 2000 and then took up real estate until 2010. He resided in the KC area for almost 60 years. He was proud to be a 32nd degree Mason.

Cecil and Charlotte traveled the world; his favorite travel memory was riding on an elephant in Thailand. He loved hunting and fishing, but mostly enjoyed being with his family, his friends and telling stories. The family wishes to thank all of the individuals who cared for him during his final days at Stratford Commons Memory Care and Vitas Hospice.

A memorial service will be held on October 21, 2017 at 10:00am at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS.
