Dolores G. Berry

June 22, 1931 — December 4, 2017

Dolores Gloria Pistone was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on June 22, 1931, the 5th and youngest child to Italian immigrants Gaetana Daleo and Vincenzo “Vincent” Pistone. Raised by her mother, she and her siblings grew up in the poorer parts of St. Louis.

As a youth she particularly enjoyed ice skating, sewing and painting, drawing, and industrial art. She attended Columbia Grade School and Central High School in St. Louis, graduating in 1948. After early graduation, she became skilled in doing payroll work on a comptometer and was employed by AT&T at 1010 Pine in downtown St. Louis. It was here that she met Donald Kay Berry, also of St. Louis, a World War II Navy Vet and recent college graduate. They were married in St. Louis on May 5, 1951. They lived in St. Louis and later in Springfield, Missouri, where their only child, Michelle, was born in 1955. They returned to St. Louis before moving to the Kansas City area in 1958.

During her early years in Kansas City, Dolores expanded her sewing and designing skills and started a very successful business, Del-Kay Interiors, doing residential and business interior decorating for 20 years. Upon retirement, she and her husband enjoyed many wonderful years as a grandparents and great grandparents.

She passed away on Monday, December 4, 2017 and was preceded in death by her husband, Don, as well as two sisters, Aida Phillips and Marian Hawley. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Neal Goodson; a brother, John Pistone; a sister, Frances Leeser; four grandchildren: Justin Goodson, Nathan Goodson, Jeremy Goodson, Angela Price, and 11 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or to the Kansas City Hospice Foundation.
