Edward Everett Newcomer


Edward Everett Newcomer, 85, passed away on Sunday November 5th after losing his battle with cancer. He was born in Ogallah, Kansas on December 9, 1931 to Carol and Alice Newcomer.  Ed graduated from Trego High School in WaKeeney, KS and attended Bethany College before entering the Navy during the Korean War. He served four years in the Navy on surface ships and in the submarine service.
After completing his military service, he moved to Kansas City and married Janis Fletchall Colby on January 4, 1958. Janis died on December 27,1995. In October 1996, Ed married Peg Gibson Lowell from the Trego High Class of 1951. Peg passed away on January 23, 2013.

Ed worked with Interstate Security Company in Kansas City for 20 years, serving in his later years as their Chief Operating Officer.  In 1977 he joined the D.H. Pace Co.  as President, eventually buying the company and remaining active until his retirement in 2009.  Ed was a longstanding and active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Overland Park, Kansas and in many community activities through his companies and a charitable foundation he formed in 1995.

Ed took tremendous pride in growing up on a farm in Western Kansas.  He was passionate about life, steadfast in his faith and always willing to lend a helping hand to others. The many lives he touched were forever changed for the better.  He will be greatly missed by both friends and family.

Ed is survived by three brothers: Art, Herb, Nelson; one sister, Nancy Firstman; five children: Derrick, Robert, Rex, Ray, & Renee;  eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 10th from 5 to 8 pm at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel and Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, Kansas.  Services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 11th at Bethany Lutheran Church, 9101 Lamar, Overland Park, Kansas. Burial will be held in private.
