Jo Anne Kay Harkin

April 27, 1939 ~ August 7, 2018 (age 79)

Jo Anne Kay Harkin, of Overland Park, Kansas, born on April 27th, 1939, to the late Bertha and Clyde Thompson, passed away at age 79 on August 7th, 2018 in Shawnee, Kansas.

  She grew up in Washington, Iowa and graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1958.  She met her husband, Dale, in Davenport, Iowa while shoe shopping and they were married in Washington, Iowa on June 27, 1965.  She is survived by Dale, her loving husband of 53 years, son Bradley Harkin and daughter-in-law Gina, daughter Brenda Fonseca and son-in-law Danny Fonseca, and great-granddaughter Desiree, sisters Carma Kronfeld, Ellen Gross (Bob) and brothers Arnold Thompson (Linda) and Alan Thompson (Nancy) as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

 Jo Anne was very active in the Iowa 4H Club and really enjoyed gardening.  She was an accomplished soloist having won many singing competitions throughout high school and kept her love for singing alive as a member of Asbury United Methodist Church's choir for many years.  She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi where she just received the golden circle award for 50 years of sisterhood.  No one ever left Jo Anne's table hungry with her delicious cooking and delectable deserts which kept everyone coming back for more.  She was employed at O'Neill Oldsmobile and Sutherlands Lumber Company.  Family and friends were most important to Jo Anne and she will be remembered as someone who always put others before herself.

 Visitation will be Saturday, August 11th, 2018 from 11:00 am – 12:00 am followed by funeral services at 12:00 pm at Asbury United Methodist Church, 5400 W. 75th St., Prairie Village, Kansas, 66208.  Graveside service will immediately follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS  66210.
