Marilyn Foster

June 27, 1931 — August 13, 2018

Marilyn B. Foster, 87, passed away August 13, 2018. A visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 am Friday, August 17th with a memorial mass to follow at 10:30.   Both will held at Queen of the Holy Rosary, 7023 W. 71st St., Overland Park, KS.

Marilyn was born to Irene and Frank Breeckner in South Bend, IN. After graduation from Marquette High School in Tulsa, OK.  Marilyn attended nursing school at St. John’s Hospital and she worked for a physician practice for several years.

Marilyn met the love of her life, Joseph Foster, in May of 1954 as a result of a blind date set up by mutual friends.  Joe knew and expressed to others that night, that this was the woman he was going to marry.  They wed October 9th of that same year and were married for 67 years until Joe’s passing in October of 2017.

Marilyn devoted her life to Joe and raising their five daughters.  As the girls grew up, married and had children, she welcomed sons-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren into the ever-growing family with open arms.

Marilyn is preceded in death by one brother.  She is survived by five daughters, Sharon (Pat) Delozier, Susan (William) Yarmuth, Sandra (Scott) Bigelow, Stacey Foster, Sally (Mark) Willey, 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Additionally, Marilyn leaves behind countless friends, and loved ones including Nina and Stewart Bunn, Mike Hendricks, Wyn Painter, Luann Butters, Ellen Hinman and Ann Granger.

Marilyn will always be remembered lovingly by the entire family for her quirky sense of humor and feisty spirit.  In her 87 years, Marilyn was “mom” and “best friend” to countless neighbors, family friends, caregivers, store clerks... anyone who was lucky enough to know her.  She genuinely delighted in and appreciated the small things in life.  Her kind and giving spirit was unending and contagious.  She gave often what she didn’t have.

She found daily joy in flower arranging, reading a great book, working crossword puzzles, and fussing over stray animals.  But her greatest joy was talking with her girls… and how they will miss those talks.  Marilyn would never have wanted to leave them, but found comfort in knowing that their joys were multiplied and their sorrows divided by five.

“Honey, do you mind going by yourself?”
