Michael Roys M.D.

Michael N. Roys, M.D. of Lake Lotawana, MO, passed from this life on July 24th, 2017. A visitation and celebration of Michael’s life will be held Sunday, July 30th at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS from 2:00-4:00 PM. A separate religious service will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 2864 E. 96th St., Chicago, Illinois, on August 5th at 11 AM.


Michael was born December 5, 1965 in Chicago, IL, the oldest child of Norbert and Frances Rojewski. In his youth he enjoyed playing competitive water polo and cheering on his beloved Chicago Bears.

Michael attended Mt. Carmel High School, graduating in 1983. He then attended the University of Illinois Urbana- Champaign, completing a degree in Biochemistry.  Following his undergraduate education, he was employed by Abbott in Chicago as a biochemist. He was admitted to University of Illinois College of Medicine, graduating in 1995 with high honors. He then pursued a course of study/specialty in Radiology at the University of Washington in Seattle. Following completion of residency he underwent an additional year of fellowship training in Interventional Radiology.

Michael began practice at Radiology and Nuclear Medicine in Topeka, KS following fellowship. During his career, he was employed by Alliance Radiology in Overland Park, KS, and Western Missouri Radiology Group in Independence, MO. Michael was most recently the Director of Interventional Radiology at the Veterans’ Administration Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. He was a selfless physician, always putting the welfare of his patients first.

Anyone who spent time around Michael experienced his keen sense of humor through perfectly timed references from his favorite songs and movies. Michael had a true sense of wonder for the natural world, reflected in his hobbies. He pursued a passion for nature photography. An avid scuba diver, he traveled the globe, including Tahiti and The Maldives, to experience some of the world’s most beautiful reef systems. He enjoyed boating and fishing from his lakeside home at Lake Lotawana, and hunting with his friend Lee Clark. He rarely missed a televised Chicago Bears game and also enjoyed watching the Chicago Blackhawks take the ice. Most of all he loved spending time with his son, sharing his hobbies and favorite movies as well as life lessons.

Michael is survived by his parents, Norb and Fran of Monticello, IN, a brother, David Rojewski (Dayna), Colorado Springs, CO, a sister, Carol Fairborn (Luke), Crozet, VA, a beloved son, Christopher Michael Walter Roys, Olathe, KS, Dr. Kimberly Wherry Roys, the mother of his son, nieces Brooke, Bailey, Cameron, and Prudence, and nephews Tony and Gordon. Also left to cherish his memory is his best friend and soulmate, Dawn Bastian, Louisville, KY. He also leaves behind many dear friends and valued colleagues.
