Ramon Conejo

January 28, 1922 — October 1, 2017

Ramon Conejo, 95, the last surviving member of the WWII B-17 (Lucky Lassie), peacefully joined the rest of his crew on October 1, 2017 as the Lucky Lassie flew for the last time into the skies on its way to Heaven.

Ramon was born on January 28, 1922.  He was the son of Epitacio and Juana Conejo. He was born in Saucillo Mexico, State of Chihuahua.  He served in the Army Air Corps during the Second World War.  He was a Radio Operator and waist gunner on the Lucky Lassie completing 33 missions over Germany.  During his military service he was a boxer for his Company, and a translator for the BBC that broadcasted into Spain, Portugal, and South America.

He came to Kansas City in 1946 to attend electrical school and was finally hired on as a mail handler for the Kansas City Terminal Railway Company until they shut down operations at Union Station. He was temporarily the head maintenance man at Mount Saint Joseph rest home in Kansas City, Kansas before hiring on with the Santa Fe Railroad where he finally retired from the railroad in 1981.

Ramon was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Kansas City, Kansas.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Demecio, and sister Chila.  He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Nadine; four sons: Raul, Arthur (Carmen), Fernando (Pat) and Carlos (Patricia); Brother, Genovevo; Sister, Natividad, both from El Paso Texas; 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday, October 7, 2017 with Visitation from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM and Catholic Rite of burial Mass at 11:00 AM at Blessed Sacrament Church, 2203 Parallel Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas.  Interment will follow at Johnson County Funeral Chapel & Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, Kansas 66210.

The family suggest in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Knights of Columbus Council 10326 at Blessed Sacrament Church
