Richard "Rick" Strachan

July 9, 1954 — November 17, 2017

It is with great sadness that the family of Richard (Rick) Strachan announce his passing on November 17th, 2017 at the age of 63 years.

Rick will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 42 years, Grace (Russell) Strachan. He will be fondly remembered by his brothers and sisters, Bev (Grace), Debbie (Mike), Dan (Sylvia) and Patty (Darroll) Koning and by extended family and friends.

Rick is predeceased by his parents, Ray and Ivy (Gile) Strachan.

The son of Ray and Ivy (Gile) Strachan, Rick was born in Listowel, Ontario Canada on July 9th, 1954. He spent a happy childhood in Listowel with brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Rick met his wife, Grace, in Stratford Ontario in 1972, and got married in 1975. Six months after their marriage they moved to Calgary, Alberta.

Rick began working at Engineered Air in 1976 in Calgary Alberta, Canada. He then transferred to the American Manufacturing Facility in De Soto, Kansas in 1991, where he remained a dedicated employee up until his passing. He is described by coworkers as “the go to guy”, being respected for his vast knowledge, compassion for the product, and problem solving skills.

Rick had other passions besides his work. They included trips to Canada, cooking, Cocker Spaniels, wood working , motorcycles, British sports cars, Friday date night and quiet times at home with Grace.

Family, friends and others whose lives were touched by Rick are invited to a Celebration of his Life from 5-8PM, at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS, on Friday December 1st to reminisce, grieve, and support each other. We want to celebrate Rick’s life in United States the way he would want. There will be a celebration of life later in Canada (date to be determined) where his ashes will be laid to rest.

Special thanks to staff of the Shawnee Mission Hospital and the Kansas City Hospice for their outstanding care and compassion for Rick.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Cocker Spaniel Rescue and Wayside Waifs.
