Sharon Gilworth

Sharon L. (Lynn) Gilworth, age 80, of Overland Park, KS, went to be with the Lord and reunite with her late husband, Bob, on Saturday, February 24, 2018.

Born in 1937, she grew up in Illinois and married her high school sweetheart, W. Robert “Bob” Gilworth. They became engaged about one year after graduation and he entered the Army for two years. They were married one year later and lived in the Seattle area while Bob finished his military service. In addition to her time spent raising their children, Sharon spent a number of years working in the medical records department for hospitals and doctors’ offices.

She enjoyed good memories from trips with Bob, her children, grandchildren, and sons-in-law. She also marveled over all the places she and Bob had gotten to travel around the world in his company award trips, with a church group and others following their retirement. As a young woman, she had not even expected to travel far in the U.S.

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter, Jayne Coones; her grandson, Jared Coones; her sister, Carol Lynn Williamson; and her parents, Laveta (Kerns) Brown and John Lynn.

Survivors include her two daughters, Jill Matthews and Jena Gerwick, four grandchildren: Shannon, Corey, Meghan and John; sons-in-law, Tom Coones and David Matthews.

Rosary will be at 9 AM, followed by visitation until 10 AM with 10 o’clock Funeral Mass on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Church of the Ascension, 9510 W. 127th St, Overland Park, KS 66213. Burial to follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, 9501 159th St, Overland Park, KS 66221.
