Sherman Jones

September 9, 1929 — August 10, 2019

Overland Park, Kansas

Sherman Jones was born in Syracuse, New York on September 9th, 1929.   After a long illness he died peacefully on August 10th.  He grew up on Otisco Lake in the Finger Lakes area of upstate New York. He graduated from Buffalo University. Shortly after graduation he married Jean Jensen. He went to work for IBM in their newly created Office Products division. He held several sales and managerial positions. He spearheaded the worldwide expansion of the division as Director of Worldwide Sales for the Office Products Division. He eventually was promoted to VP of Sales for Western United States. That is what brought him to Kansas City in the early 60’s. After a very successful career at IBM he was involved in the financial services industry and eventually owned T&J Industries. T&J manufactured specialty vehicles for the coal and railroad industries.  Sherman was an avid golfer at Milburn Country Club.

Sherman and Jean had 3 sons, Jeffrey, Brian and Spencer. Jean passed away in 1981 after a battle with cancer. Sherman married Lucille a few years later and they were together for over 33 years. He is predeceased by his parents, Allyn and Geraldine Jones.

He is survived by his wife Lucille, his sister Aletha MacBeth, brother Allyn Jones, and 3 sons Jeffrey (wife Laurel), Brian (wife Jan), Spencer (wife Gayle), 7 grandchildren, Allen, Adam, Lindsey, Andrea, Lucas, Emily, Allisa and 8 great grandchildren.
