Susanne "Susie" Parker

October 1, 1939 — January 8, 2018

Susie Parker, 78, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2018.

She was born Susanne Gay Hindle on October 1, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan, to Arthur Clifton

Hindle and Esther Menke Hindle. She graduated from Birmingham High School and attended

Beloit College, where she studied French and joined the Delta Gamma sorority. At Beloit, she

met Jim Parker, with whom she just celebrated 56 years of marriage. After moving to Kansas

City, she taught French for one year at Indian Hills Junior High School before starting a family.

Later, she would work as an office manager for Sunny Girls Temporary Service (later Cencor).

Susie had a wide variety of interests and made many friends. She was an avid tennis

player and an enthusiastic hockey fan. She crafted exquisite miniature creations and traveled to

conventions each year to teach and learn. She also expressed herself through knitting and

crocheting, gardening, and decorating the house for all major and minor holidays. Her other joys

were her cats; breakfast buffets; girls’ nights out; spooky movies; mystery novels; daily walks;

Johnny Mathis; Barry Manilow; and Cadbury eggs. She particularly loved babysitting her

grandchildren when they were young and attending their activities as they grew older.

Surviving family members are her husband, James D. Parker of Leawood; sister, Cheryl

Hardy of Fountain Hills, AZ; daughter, Jennifer Parker Burrus (David) of Leawood; son, Dr.

Jamie Parker (Derin) of Watkinsville, GA; and grandchildren, Jimmy Parker, Holly Parker, Will

Burrus, and Parker Burrus.

They all thank you for your love and friendship for Susie. They also

express their gratitude to the staff at The Forum and KC Hospice for their compassionate care

over the past season.

All are welcome for visitation on Saturday, January 20, from 3-5 p.m. at the Johnson

County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. In lieu of flowers, please consider a

contribution to Ronald McDonald House.
