Thaine Maelzer

November 2, 1934 — May 7, 2018

Thaine Quan Maelzer (November 2, 1934), 83, passed away May 7, 2018, at his home in Lenexa, Kansas. Thaine was born in Council Grove, Kansas by Walter Valentine Maelzer (1983) & Viola Unity Banks Maelzer (1974).

Survived by sister, Debra New and her four children: Shirley Benlon, Diana Wuertz, Junior New, and Bobby New. His wife, Stacey Thompson-Maelzer, married in Las Vegas, Nevada (April 3, 2011), his two children, Kevin Maelzer & Beth Olson (Mike) and their mother, Etta Maelzer (Collins) and seven grandkids: Brock Maelzer, Twila Latini, Doris Johns (Clint), Emily Sewell (Wes), Bray, Kaleb (18) and Jacob (13) along with 11 great grandkids: Abigail Latini (20), Savannah Espinosa-Maelzer (18), Ricky Latini IV (18), Valerie Maelzer (16), Katrina Maelzer (14), Hunter Gray (11), Conner Gray (9), Layla Sewell (8), Walter Sewell (5), Eldon Johns (5), and Novalee Johns (4).

Thaine graduated from Kansas School for the Deaf in '54, then he worked at the KC Star newspaper for 20 years; he owned a business, Stanley Wood Product during the years of 72-78, then he retired after working at Quality Wood Product for another 20 years. He loved to be a cabinetmaker; he continued to perform some woodworking along with playing golf and bowling as his hobbies.

A Celebration of Life will take place from 1:30 - 4:30 PM on June 10, 2018 at Olathe Deaf Club (ODC), 221 S. Chestnut St. Olathe, KS 66061.
