The Honorable Judge Robert Jones

August 23, 1933 — February 21, 2018

The Honorable Judge Robert Gene Jones, 84, passed peacefully into eternal life on February 21, 2018 with his loving wife of 60 years by his side. He was born August 23, 1933 in St. Joseph, MO to parents James George Jones and Stella (Brock) Jones. He was preceded in death by his only sibling, a older brother George Jones who gave his life while serving his country in the US Military in Korea.

He graduated from Central High School, St. Joseph Missouri and attended the University of Missouri, Columbia.  He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. After graduation, he attended University of Missouri Kansas City Law School and was president of his senior class. He was the delegate to the American Bar Association in the college division. He was a member of the Phi Delta Phi, a legal fraternity and Omicron Delta Kappa Honorary Fraternity. He graduated in 1959.

On June 29,1957, he married the love of his life, Barbara Schaub Marshall from Union, Missouri.  They were blessed to celebrate 60 years of marriage.  Their love of travel took them to amazing destinations such as Paris, Venice, Hawaii, Israel & Greece.

Robert had a long and distinguished career.  He was private practice for several years before becoming a Municipal Court Judge for Overland Park, KS in 1969.  In 1976 he was elected as a District Court Judge for Johnson County, KS. His most notable trial was The Hobson Case. He also presided over the first trial in the country in which DNA analysis was presented.  He served by appointment on the Kansas Supreme Court, on numerous committees and occasionally served as a district judge on the Kansas Court of Appeals. He served as President to the Kansas Municipal Judges Association. He also served on the Executive Committee for the American Bar Association.

One of his most prized possessions was his 1952 MG. He was a proud member of the Midwest MGA

Club for 40 years, winning many awards. He was also active in the Kansas City All British and Heartland British Car Show for many decades. He loved to tell the story about the honor of driving his beloved MG on the track at The Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George & Stella, his brother George Jones, and infant daughter Brooke Margaret.  He is survived by his faithful wife Barbara, son Brock Marshall Jones (wife Fina & daughter Angela), son Brent Robert Jones (wife Shana, daughter Kennedy, sons Jeran (wife Kelly), & Luke) and daughter Brooke Jacquelyn Cashion (sons Hayden, Dane, Bo, Antoine & daughter Reagan) and great grandson Jase.

Service is scheduled for Friday March 2, 2018 at Johnson County Chapel 11200 Metcalf Avenue. Visitation will be from 10:30–11:30am. Funeral service will begin at 11:30.   Reception immediately following service.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to either Prairie Elder Care 11800 Railroad Avenue, OP, KS  66212 in ℅ Robert Jones Memorial or Church of the Apostles PO Box 2842 Olathe, KS  66062.
