Patricia Ann “Tricia” (Cullen) Hinton, 63, Overland Park, KS, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family and friends. She battled against Glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer, for 5 and a half years. Her determination and strong spirit shattered every time frame she was given.
Tricia was born on October 3, 1953, in Dubuque, Iowa to Ken and Marge Cullen. She graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, IA with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. Tricia began working at Case IH in East Moline, IL and worked there for several years. Her love of children was demonstrated through her work as a Guardian ad Litem in Minneapolis, MN and in her many years of teaching children to swim. She was also instrumental in creating the Quad Cities chapter of SHARE, an infant loss support group. Family was very important in Tricia’s life. She loved her grandchildren fiercely and cherished her role as Nana.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ken and Marge Cullen; her sisters, Carol Cullen and Elizabeth Cullen; and her infant son, Benjamin.
Tricia is survived by her loving husband, Terry Hinton; her daughters, Molly (Aaron) Kleinwolterink, Lisa (Jeff) White, Katy Horst; her step-daughters, Amy (Doug) Mosow, Jennifer (Ron) Shimek, and Beth (Andy) Shultz; her sisters, Sue Cullen, Taffy (Holger) Cullen, Megan Cullen, and Moya (Sam) Jackson; and thirteen grandchildren.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at 4PM on Thursday, August 17, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 7851 W. 119th St., Overland Park, KS 66213. The Celebration will continue following the service at Coach’s Bar and Grill at 9089 W. 135th St., Overland Park, KS 66221. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Tricia to the Head for the Cure Foundation or the University of Kansas Cancer Center.
