Audrey Evans passed away after a remarkable life defined by love, family, creativity, and adventure. Born in Sedalia, Missouri, in 1923, Audrey grew from humble beginnings into a woman whose warmth, elegance, and spirited personality touched everyone who knew her.
Audrey met the love of her life, David Evans, at Southeast High School. Their partnership blossomed into a marriage that lasted an incredible 77 years. Together they raised three children, David, Chris, and Candace. The two built a life centered on family, hard work, and shared dreams.
An accomplished interior designer, fashionista, antique store owner, and avid collector of vintage goods, Audrey often helped design and shape the homes her husband built throughout his successful career as a home builder and developer. Audrey and David's work was featured numerous times in the Kansas City Star newspaper. Together, they were especially proud of their role in developing Lakestone Estates in Olathe, Kansas.
One of Audrey’s most treasured possessions was her framed letter from the White House celebrating her 100th birthday. Audrey loved gathering family and friends around her table, where her exceptional cooking created countless special moments. Audrey's love for the mountains was well known, originating from early in her marriage where she lived in Colorado Springs while David served in World War II. She held a special fondness for family trips to Colorado, and the yearly summer vacations the family took to Lake Dillon, and Estes Park, located in Rocky Mountain National Park. Whether traveling to the mountains or searching for hidden treasures, Audrey’s whimsy could even turn an antique hunt into a road trip.
She is preceded in death by her son, Chris, and husband David, and is survived by her children, David, and Candace; her beloved granddaughter, Kris; and many family members and friends who will forever treasure her memory.
Audrey's smile and enduring spirit made her a much beloved original resident at Fairways of Ironhorse. In life she was a walking legacy of elegance, resilience, love, and joy. Audrey will be remembered for her grace, creativity, adventurous spirit, and the deep love she shared for those around her. Her memory lives on in the family she cherished and the countless lives she enriched.
The family would like to welcome donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and The Salvation Army in Audrey's memory.
