Dennis Ray Shaw

Dennis Ray Shaw, known to his family as Denny, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of September 13, 2026, at Kansas City Hospice House. He was 86.

Denny was born January 2, 1940, in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Clarence and Mary Edna Shaw, and the middle child between his older sister, Carol Bartles, and his younger brother, Dale Shaw. Those Kansas City roots stayed with him. They were the foundation of his life.

In his early years, Dennis served as a United States Marine. After the Marines, he went to work for General Electric and stayed thirty-eight years. He later finished his working life with Performance Contracting, retiring at the age of 67.

Denny was very smart, disciplined, witty, and simple in the best way. Weekends were for golf—a few honest hours on a stretch of grass, a ball, a sky, and the satisfaction of a thing done well. On Sundays, when he was not on a course, he belonged to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Denny’s greatest work was his marriage. He and his wife, Susi Shaw, were married 64 years.

Soul mates.

There will be days that do not hurt as much as this one. That will not be a betrayal of him. He wanted peace for the people he loved. He wanted them to laugh when the laugh arrived. He wanted the house to remain a home.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Mary Edna Shaw. He is survived by his beloved wife, Susi Shaw; his sister, Carol Bartles; his brother, Dale Shaw; his daughter, Denise Wilson; his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Dayna Shaw; his grandchildren, Anna, Emma, and Niklas; his great-grandchildren, Sylas, Audreyah; and a little girl not yet here, but who will still grow up knowing the legacy of her Papa.

Visitation will be Friday, October 2nd, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., at Johnson County Funeral Chapel and Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, Kansas.
