Eileen Lundstrom, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on August 5th, at the age of 98. She was pre-deceased in death by her husband of 73 years, Tom Lundstrom, her parents, James and Louise Jontz, her sister Evelyn (Jontz) Chiddister, and brother Leland Jontz. Eileen was born in Warsaw, Indiana and raised in Silver Lake, Indiana, graduating from Silver Lake High, playing the clarinet in the marching band. She graduated from Indiana University in 1950 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority and met her future husband, Tom Lundstrom. They were married in 1951 and, following his service in the Korean War, they moved to Kansas City and lived on the Country Club Plaza. As their family grew, they moved to Prairie Village and later Overland Park, Kansas.

Eileen served as Board President of the former George H. Nettleton Retirement Home, leading its designation as a historic landmark. She was President of the EV chapter of the P.E.O. organization and a charter member of Leawood Singers, in which she participated for over 50 years. She served as a Trustee of Asbury Methodist Church, where she was a member for 66 years, and sang in the choir for 20 years. She served as a Girl Scouts Troop Leader, and was a member of Leawood and Loch Lloyd Country Clubs. Eileen and Tom enjoyed being longtime members of Midnighters Dance Club of Kansas City for nearly 50 years.

Eileen enjoyed socializing and entertaining, decorating the house for every holiday, and creating home-cooked meals for her family and friends. She was an enthusiastic supporter of all of her family’s activities, from sporting events to music recitals to school programs. She was an avid bridge player for over 70 years, played tennis for 40 years and golfed into her 90’s. Eileen and Tom had the opportunity to travel to many parts of the world and the US, including China, Russia, Australia, South Africa, and throughout Europe. They enjoyed spending their winters on Sanibel Island for the past 40 years where their family and friends would gather.

She is survived by children Paul Thomas Lundstrom, Jr., and Janet Lundstrom Hanson (Bryan); grandchildren Braden Thomas Hanson (Lauren), Davis Winslow

Hanson (Katie); great-grandchildren Brooks Michael Hanson and Angelina Christina Hanson; brother-in-law David Lundstrom, nieces Cristine Lundstrom Wood (Robert), Mary Lee Jontz Turk, Diane Chiddister; and extended family James and Amy Howard and Robert and Courtney Downs families.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, August 21st at Asbury Methodist Church, 75th and Nall, Prairie Village, Kansas, followed by a reception in the Parlor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Asbury Methodist Church or the National Audubon Society.
