Elsie was born April 10,1927 at Studley, KS on the farm of her parents, John and Mable Treu. She graduated from Sheridan Community High School, Hoxie, KS. She attended Fort Hays University and received her teaching certificate. She then taught elementary school at Chicago One Room School House, in Sheridan County from 1945-1946. At this school she taught 1st through 6th grade. Elsie found that teaching was not her calling, and she decided to begin a new career and attended Cosmetology School in Salina, KS.
On August 19, 1946 she married her High School sweetheart Jim Pickett. They made their home in Salina, KS for 43 years where their three children were born, a daughter and two sons.
She was a homemaker and cosmetologist, working in retail cosmetics for 28 years. For 15 of these years, she was an Avon representative and received multiple awards for her sales achievements. After retirement they then moved to the Kansas City area to be near their children and grandchildren.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, Ladies' Auxiliary of VFW, and the Greater Kansas City Organ Club. With her husband, they co-founded the Music Jammers Organ Club.
She also volunteered at her Church, and at St. Joseph Hospital and St. Luke’s South Hospital.
She enjoyed sewing and oil painting and creating things with her artistic talents. One of the many things she made were crocheted afghans for each of her grandchildren.
Upon their retirement, she and Jim extensively traveled in their recreational vehicle, visiting locations from Key West to Alaska. They also loved to go on cruises, but their favorite travel destination was wintering for 15 years in Mesa, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her mother and father, brother Willard Treu and sister Katie Currier.
