Maupin
Jan 26, 1941 — Jun 1, 2026
Sue Maupin (85) of Overland Park, Kansas passed away on June 1, 2026 while in the care of Sunshine Senior Living in Leawood, Kansas.
Born Karen Sue Bain to the late Sarah Vesta and Carl Ward Bain on January 26, 1941in Baxter Springs, Kansas. She graduated a BS in Education from Kansas State College of PIttsburg (Pittsburg State University) where she met the love of her life, Ron Maupin. The two were married on October 13, 1962 and together raised three sons: Scott, Gregg and Barry.
Before the birth of their first child Sue worked as a public-school teacher. She devoted herself to being a homemaker, raising their children and later became a partner in the family business alongside Ron.
The love of teacher never left her and she faithfully taught youth Sunday School for forty years.
Sue was exceptionally talented in arts and crafts, especially known for her handmade quilts and for designing and creating her own wedding dress. She was widely recognized in her community as a kind and generous woman who freely gave her time. She volunteered actively in her sons’ extracurricular activities and in church functions, including coordinating numerous weddings at Hillcrest Christian Church.
She was a devoted grandmother who cherished every opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren. Many treasured memories were made at the family’s Lake of the Ozarks condo, baking cookies together and spending time at the Craigmont community pool.
Sue is survived by her three sons: Scott (Karen), Gregg (Nea), and Barry; five grandchildren: Luke (Karen), Steven (Jayme), Becca (Guy), Juliana, and Vincent and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Gary Bain; and her beloved husband, Ron Maupin.
