Khem Senthavy, 85, of Independence, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home on October 8, 2026, while surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on May 10, 1945, in Vientiane, Laos. Khem was the oldest of 13 kids. He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He touched the lives of many through his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family.
Khem served in the Army during the Vietnam War. In 1975, he bravely escaped communism and brought his family to the United States in 1978 seeking a better future. His courage, strength, and sacrifices helped shape the life he built for his family and will forever be part of his legacy.
Throughout his life, Khem enjoyed many things, but nothing compared to his love of fishing. Whenever he had free time, you could find him at the lake, patiently hoping to catch the “big one!” His passion for fishing became a special tradition that he passed down to his grandsons, who will continue doing what their grandpa loved most. Every cast will carry a piece of his legacy and the memories they shared with him.
Above all, Khem cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Somlith Senthavy; his children Phim Nelson, Suda Senthavy (Chanly), Manyvohn Rinehart (Chris), Chun Senthavy, Judy Litthong (Johnny); and his cherished 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Khem was preceded in death by his father, Ong Santhavi; his mother, Kong Santhavi; younger brother, Tem Santhavi, and youngest daughter, Blenny Senthavy (Matt).
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has offered their love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. Your kindness and compassion mean more than words can express.
Khem will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. His courage, the sacrifices he made for his family, and the love he shared will live on for generations to come. Though he may no longer be by the lake waiting for the next big catch, his memory will live on with every fishing trip, every story shared, and every moment spent with those he loved.
