Obituary

Linda Sue Schroeder (White) died peacefully at home on October 16, 2026. Her husband of 65 years, Leland W. Schroeder, was by her side. We are comforted that she is at rest after a brief battle with an unexpected illness.

Linda was born March 10, 1942, to Howard and Hazel White, and raised in Peoria, Illinois.

In 1978, after sending her youngest child to kindergarten, Linda went back to school to become an accountant and eventually a CPA. She attended night classes at Parkland Community College in Champaign, Illinois, while raising her family and running the household. The family relocated partway through her degree, necessitating a transfer to Illinois Central Community College near Peoria, Illinois. She graduated from Sangamon University in Springfield, Illinois, in 1982. The family again relocated, this time to Overland Park, Kansas. After settling her children in their new schools, she began her career in accounting and successfully obtained her CPA license in 1987. She worked until August 2026.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Hazel White and her daughter, Heidi Lee Schroeder (age 6). She is survived by her loving husband, Leland; son, Tyson; grandchildren Perry, Carsen (Stephen), and Holden (Regan); daughter Kirsten (Cameron); grandchildren Griffin (Bailey), Arden, and Harper (Tyler); great-grandchildren Lily and Emery; brothers Ronald (Kathleen), Richard (Kathleen) and Randall (Robin), nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She was an independent person who thought carefully about challenging issues in life before forming an opinion. She was quiet but was more than willing to take a stand when the situation required it. She loved her family and friends and put their needs before her own. She made supporting her grandchildren in their pursuits a priority. She and Leland traveled miles every year to watch soccer, plays, ballet, baseball, horseshows, concerts and debate tournaments. We will miss her steady support, her sometimes too honest opinions, and her unquestioned love.

She also was practical in all things and her belief in science and logic will remain with all who knew her. With that practicality in mind, please consider a donation in her memory to St. Jude’s in lieu of flowers.
