Margaret Moeller, 95, of Raytown, Missouri, passed away on September 21, 2026.

Margaret was born on November 15, 1930, at Stobhill Hospital in Glasgow, Scotland, to Thomas and Janet McLellan. Her father, Thomas, was a house painter who also worked in Belfast, Ireland, painting staterooms aboard the ocean liner Britannia. Her mother, Janet, grew up in Airdrie, Scotland, in a family of coal miners. Margaret’s older sister, Charlotte Dewhurst McLellan-Barrett, served with the Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II.

Margaret spent her childhood in Glasgow during World War II, when the region endured the devastating attacks remembered as the Clydebank Blitz. Like other children of the wartime generation, she carried an identification bracelet, a ration card, and a National Registration Identity Card. Margaret was a bright and dedicated student who received books as awards for her attendance and academic achievement.

After completing school at age 16, Margaret joined the National Union of Tailors and Garment Workers and worked at 29 Bath Street in Glasgow. During her holidays, she enjoyed traveling with friends to the seaside town of Blackpool in Lancashire, England, where she loved spending time near the water and roller-skating.

On May 27, 1952, Margaret boarded the Île de France in Southampton, England, bound for New York. Through sponsorship, she made her way to St. Louis, where she worked for Curlee Clothes as a sewing-machine operator and hand sewer.

Margaret met Edward K. Moeller at a roller-skating rink, and the two were married on July 4, 1953. They were married for 32 years. After moving to the Kansas City area, they purchased their home in Raytown in 1962. There, they raised their two daughters and shared their home with many beloved dogs, cats, and other pets.

Margaret devoted many years to being a stay-at-home mother. She was an avid bowler at Laurel Lanes Bowling Ally in a woman’s league and a couple’s league. After raising her daughters, she held several positions, including jobs in retail and banking. A gifted seamstress with an eye for beauty, Margaret was always stylish—in both the clothes she wore and the home she created.

Margaret was immensely proud of her Scottish heritage. She was an unforgettable woman—spirited, strong-willed, resilient, and always a fighter. Her strength carried her from wartime Scotland across the Atlantic and through a long life centered on family, home, and determination.

Margaret is survived by her daughters, Mallory Hilvitz and her husband, Perry, and Robin Moeller; her grandchildren, Taylor Pinedo and her husband, Omar, and Cole Moeller; and her great-grandson, Grayson Pinedo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Janet McLellan; her sister, Charlotte Barrett, and Charlotte’s husband, Kenny; and her husband, Edward K. Moeller.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to a hospice organization or local animal shelter in Margaret’s memory, honoring her lifelong love of animals.
