Nadine Louise Neir

On October 3rd,1941, God sent an angel to our earth. Nadine Louise (Johnson) Neir was born to James (Jim) and Evelyn Johnson (Neuhring) in Charles City, IA. The small family lived there until 1944 when Jim was called into service and the family moved to Mason City to be near the relatives. Jim served his country and paid the ultimate sacrifice on July 4th,1945 at Luzon in the Philippine Islands. Nadine became an orphan at the age of 10 when her mother was killed in car accident on July 2nd,1951. Her grandparents, and aunts and uncles had a meeting, and it was determined she and her brothers would not go to an orphanage. Instead, they were raised by very kind aunts and uncles. Nadine came to know the Lord because of a new pastor who was going door to door. He was successful in all ways in saving souls and building a church.

Nadine graduated from high school in 1960 and immediately enrolled at St. Lukes Nursing School in Cedar Rapids. After graduation, she took her first nursing job in the hospital where she was born, and this is where she met her soul mate. On a Sunday afternoon, Nadine called a pastor’s home and wanted to see if someone could give her a ride. Larry was selected to do the duty. He was told she sounded like an elderly lady as her voice was a little raspy from working all night. When he pulled up to her apartment, a gorgeous blond came out. They were both immediately smitten. Talk about God at work. A couple of months later, Nadine took a better paying job at the hospital in Mason City but made sure she gave Larry her phone number and address. The rest is history. They were married on December 29th,1962 at Larry’s home church. They lived in Waterloo where Larry worked. Nadine took a job at St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo for 11 months until their first child, Lana, was born on November 18th, 1963.

In 1967, they moved to La Crosse, Wisconsin where Larry took a better job. On February 25th, 1969, Lynn was born and then on July 24th, 1972, Kevin came along. Nadine continued to work part time until September of 1980 when the family moved to Overland Park, Kansas. Larry worked for Yellow Freight, and Nadine once again took up her nursing career. She would spend the rest of her life in this area until they moved to Tonganoxie in 2020. Nadine’s Alzheimer’s was starting to settle in at that time, and the decision was that they needed to be closer to family as more care would be needed. Larry and Nadine have served in many capacities in several churches as their purpose in life was to stay active and serve wherever they could. Their life has been a testimony to God’s great love.

On September 2nd, 2026, God took an angel home whilst surrounded by many loving relatives. Nadine is survived by Larry, their three children and their spouses Rob Purinton, Teresa (Tomason) and Ann (Woodward); four grandchildren David, Alicia, Deven and Dylan and their spouses, and 10 great grandchildren too numerous to mention. There are 25 in total.
