Bob (86) was born in Nevada, Missouri on November 21,1939; and was raised in

Kansas City, Missouri from age two. He attended Central Christian Church and was

active in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Explorer Scouts.

His great work ethic began early, as a drug store delivery boy at age eight. He then

secured two daily newspaper delivery routes. Many other jobs followed as Bob grew

up. He never passed up a chance, though, to visit grandparents, aunts, uncles, and

cousins, especially relatives on their farms.

Bob graduated from Central High School in Kansas City in June, 1958. He entered

Kansas State University on a track scholarship, and was especially good in 800 meter

races. He forever held his coaches in great regard for their support and guidance. Bob

graduated from KSU in January, 1963, with a BA in Geography/City Planning.

Bob had a distinguished military career. He joined the Marine Platoon Leaders Corps

(PLC) in 1960 while a sophomore at KSU, and then switched to Officers Candidate

School (OCS) when he started his officers training at Quantico, Virginia in February of

1963. After completing OCS and Basic School, Bob reported to 1st Battalion 5th

Marine Regiment on January 5th, 1964.

While on active duty, Bob had a string of responsibilities, including weapons, infantry,

operations officer, platoon commander, and company executive officer. On May 5th,

1965, Bob sailed for Viet Nam via Okinawa, Japan, where he received further training.

While in Viet Nam, Bob and his company were in the thick of battle many times while

defending bases being built by the Seabees. For one such battle, Bob was later

awarded The Silver Star for Gallantry in Action of 12 May 1966.

On June 16th, 1966, Bob returned to the United States. He reported to Quantico,

Virginia, and was promoted to rank of Captain. He was assigned as company

commander “C” Company, Headquarters, Battalion.

Bob left active duty on April 29, 1967, moved to San Diego, California, and became a

City Planner. He joined the 4th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Marine Corps

Reserves with training at Camp Pendleton. He stayed out of the Reserves for about 18

months to attend night school at San Diego State University, where he earned his MS

in Public Administration/Urban Affairs in 1969.

In 1973, Bob was promoted to Major and became the military training advisor to a

Reserve Seabee Regiment headquartered out of Tucson, Arizona. Then after a

promotion to Lt. Col. in 1979, Bob served on the 11th Naval District Admirals Inspector

Generals Staff in San Diego. From 1979 to 1985 Bob served as nation-wide military

training advisor to admiral, in command of over 17,000 Seabee reservists of the

Reserve Naval Construction Forces/Seabee Brigade. Bob retired from the Marine

Corps Reserves on June 15, 1985.

Bob’s civilian career included City Planner; Community/Engineering and Development

Specialist; Regional Park Planning and Development Director; a California public

school district development director; and owner of a private development/investment

company in southern California.

In November of 2005, Bob moved back to the Midwest with his wife, Liz, where they

enjoyed retirement in Overland Park, Kansas.

Bob is survived by his wife Elizabeth (“my Lizzy”); son Robert Marrone (Fatima); two

grandchildren, Milad and Hana Marrone; sister Mary Reeves; sister Barbara Hunter;

and two previously adopted sons, Sean Marrone and Victor Krebs (Gail).
