Rosetta Diane Lanning—a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt—passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She was born at home in Georgetown, Ohio, on December 19, 1951. Though her birth certificate officially reads December 21—the date she was tended to and certified by the local doctor—her family always celebrated her true birthday.
Diane’s life was defined by her devotion to her family and her authentic personality. Her greatest joy was the time she spent with her husband, Kenny. Married in June of 1970, for nearly 56 years together they built a life centered on fidelity and family. She loved her children and grandchildren and constantly sacrificed for herself to give to them. She enjoyed Southern Gospel music, good preaching, quilting, and she rarely missed a Sunday NASCAR race.
Those who knew Diane best will remember her characteristic honesty. She rarely passed on the opportunity to share her opinion, a trait that endeared her to many. It was this direct, genuine way of interacting with the world that made her so loved and appreciated by her friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Rosetta (Souder) Combs, and siblings Eddie Combs, Clayton Combs, Darlene Alexander, Marva McVey, Tony Combs, and Tim Combs.
Diane’s legacy lives on through the husband she loved more than life, Kenny Lanning; her son, Ken Lanning, Jr. (Michele); and her daughter, Crystal Anderson (Lance). She was the proud and loving grandmother of Cheyanne, Macaela, Christian, Micah, Jonah, Lydia, and Priscilla, and great grandkids Amelia, Ronan and Greyson.
Her siblings who also carry her memories are Ronnie (Carol Ann) Combs, Bill (Diana) Combs, Wayne (Nancy) Combs, Drexel (Dienne) Combs, Linda (Danny) Clark, and Vada Combs, along with a host of extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Diane believed in the Gospel of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and lived in expectation that she would see once again her loved ones who had gone on before.
A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 9:00 AM at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel, located at 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS 66210. A memorial service and celebration of Diane’s life will follow at 10:00 AM, with burial at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers or other gifts, please make a donation to Diane’s favorite ministry, Hopeful Hearts of San Lucas, https://hopefulheartsofsanlucas.com/
She leaves behind a wealth of memories that her family will cherish forever.
