Daphne Haber

July 9, 2018 — December 29, 2019

Daphne Rae Haber, 17 months old, died peacefully at Children’s Mercy Hospital on December 29, 2019 in her mommy’s arms as her daddy, big brother, and family surrounded her.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave. in Overland Park, KS on Saturday, January 4th at 3pm.  Visitation will be held before the service, beginning at 2pm.

Daphne Rae was born on July 9, 2018 in Merriam, KS to her parents; Joshua Haber and Desiree Garrett.  Together with her big brother Elijah, they lived life to the fullest every day at home in Olathe, KS.

To know Daphne was to love her.  In the 541 days of her life she has sprinkled the world with immeasurable joy and love.  Her smiles, laughter, excitement, teasing and flirting; her happiness when she shared anything from her blueberries to a toy, the crocodile tears from owwies made better by kisses, the way she simply adored her big brother “Lijah”, the way all of these things and hundreds more, were the beautiful ways she invited us into her huge, big-as-the-sky love.  Her hugs, kisses and snuggles spoke more than any words could have said.

Daphne (aka Sissy, aka Winnie) knew what love and all of the good-things-in-life were.  Mommy and Daddy gave Daphne every reason to be happy to be in the world.  The love this family shares is an incredible thing to behold, and Daphne thrived and grew and came into herself because of it.  From the everyday routines, to going on trips, to attending special events; from the park, to the pool, to Grampa’s house, to Emma’s house, to the grocery store; Daphne was so happy to be a part of it all and very proud that she was finally becoming able to run with the big kids.

Daphne was preceded in death by one uncle, many of her great grandparents, and other extended family.  They have all gone out to meet her, and have welcomed her to heaven, where she will be waiting for all of us someday.

Survivors include her parents and brother Elijah James Haber, her uncles; Kyle Haber (Melanie), Justin Haber, Michael J. Garrett (Jennifer), her aunt JoAnne Fitzgerald, her cousins; Landon, Corbin, Emma Rae, her grandparents Craig Haber, Sheila Helms, Michael S. Garrett, Pam (Tod) Wells, her great grandparents Harold and Marlys Haber, and a great big village of family and friends who loved her and were loved by her.

We miss you lots Daphne Rae, but love you even more.  Until we see you again, we hold you so close in our hearts, treasuring all that you gave to us so generously, innocently and freely.  Thank you precious Daphne, now our beautiful angel.
