On Monday, March 25, 2019, Dorrell Tindle Baird, age 94, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Dorrell passed away peacefully at the Hospice House of Kansas City located on Wornall Road. Dorrell’s decline in health and quality of life lead him from his earthly journey to begin his heavenly life.

Dorrell Tindle Baird was born on November 2, 1924 to Herschel and Velma (Tindle) Baird in Rogersville, Mo. He was their only child.  Dorrell was a 1942 graduate of Ozark High School. He attended: Southwest Baptist College, Baptist Bible College, and Calvary Bible College. Dorrell was an ordained Baptist minister and pastored in: Cassville, MO; Girard, KS; Granite City, IL; Joplin, MO; Pleaston, KS. His first marriage was to June Gray on August 20, 1948 at Asbury Baptist Church in Asbury, KS. They had two daughters. His second marriage was to Malinda Baglin on August 23, 1957 at Kansas City Baptist Temple in Kansas City, MO. They had one son. Dorrell was one of the last surviving veterans of World War II. He was granted his honorable discharge in 1946 after serving in the Philippines, Japan, and New Guinea. Dorrell worked twenty plus years for the government before retiring in 1987. He enjoyed a competitive game of Rook where, “A card laid is a card played.” When health allowed, Dorrell was an avid horseshoe player. He won several medals at the Kansas Senior Olympics and participated at the national Senior Olympics in Arizona. He spent most of his adult life in the Kansas City area and was a member of the Lenexa Baptist Church.

Dorrell Baird’s first wife of nearly six years, June (Gray) Baird preceded him in death on June 30, 1954. His second wife of 61 years, Malinda (Baglin) Baird proceeds him in life. Surviving Dorrell is his daughter Suzanne Williams and her husband Keith, his daughter Sharon and her husband Rob, and his son Steve and his wife Lisa. He is survived by seven grandchildren: Missy Robinson, Tara Dunn, Mindy Martens, Brittany Drury, Noah Baird, Josiah Baird, and Micah Baird. He also is survived by ten great grandchildren.

Dorrell Baird’s Celebration of Life will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at Lenexa Baptist Church. Immediately following the Celebration of Life, a committal service will be held at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel and Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm on Monday, April 1, 2019 at Johnson County Funeral Chapel and Memorial Gardens. Another brief visitation will be held beginning at 9 am on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at Lenexa Baptist Church,  prior to the Celebration of Life.

In lieu of flowers, Dorrell’s wishes are that a donation would be made to City Union Mission in his name.
