George Colburn

July 20, 1945 — May 6, 2022

Barnett, Missouri

George Wayne Colburn, 76, died unexpectedly on May 6th, 2022, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born July 20th, 1945, in Gardner Kansas the son of William and Mary Colburn. George was an immensely proud American and joined the United States Army until his medical discharge. George returned home and chose to go to school. He chose a beauty school. What better place to meet girls is what he once said? There he met Carol McKinney and made her his wife. They spent 52 years together until her death. George raised four beautiful daughters and a son together. George was a great dad and helped raise his grandson too. George spent almost 30 years working for Shawnee Mission Medical Center in the environmental services department. He was proud of his work there and spoke very fondly of his coworkers. George moved his family to Barnett Missouri in 2003 when he tired of the city. George took care of his wife and transported Mennonites to the community. In recent years George lived with two of his daughters caring for his home and planting fruit trees for the future of George’s 12 Acre Woods as he called it. George’s sense of humor kept even the hardest of times light and funny. His strength came from the fact he believed that the Lord would always provide for him and his family. He took comforted his daughters even when he was not feeling well and reassured them it would be all right. George is survived by his daughters Katy Colburn, and Son- Se-Ray Colburn of the home, and his daughter Valerie Nichols of Osawatomie KS. his son Rory Colburn of Sedalia MO., his grandson Shelby Colburn of Stover MO., sister Martha Huffman of Springhill KS., and many other family members. George is proceeded in death by his wife Carol Colburn, his daughter Shannon Demoe Colburn, and his brothers Bill and Val Colburn. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the funeral home to help with the cost.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
