Jay Swetnam

March 5, 1955 — October 10, 2020

Platte City, Missouri

Jay Robert “Bob” Swetnam, age 65, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a brief illness.  At the time of his passing, Bob was surrounded by those he loved.

Bob was born in Kansas City, MO but he spent his youth in Prairie Village, KS wreaking havoc on the neighborhood with younger brother John.  Older sisters Sally and Susie were also incredibly close to Bob and he considered himself very lucky to be a part of such an amazing family.  He loved to travel and was able to visit Europe, South America and the Caribbean Islands and came back with memorable stories from each place.

Bob graduated from the University of Kansas in 1978 and was a lifelong Jayhawk.  Bob had successful careers in real estate and merchandising.  Bob retired from a produce merchandising position earlier in the year where he was contracted at the commissary at Fort Leavenworth.  All those who came in to contact with Bob instantly loved him.   Bob was a charismatic, witty man who knew no strangers.  He was very blessed to meet CJ Bastian and was in a loving marriage until his passing.  Bob had two children and was fortunate to see them grow in to adulthood and parenthood.  Bob was a doting grandfather that loved his grandchildren.  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Bob is preceded in death by his father Richard J. Swetnam, his mother Gladys Oldham Swetnam, his sister Susie Swetnam, and brother John Swetnam.  Bob is survived by his wife CJ Bastian, his sister Sally Swetnam, his son Alex Swetnam and wife Angie, his daughter McKenzie Fuller and husband Tom, and four beautiful grandchildren; Kennedy, Cooper, Reagan and Maizie.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, October 15th, 2020 at Johnson County Funeral Chapel & Memorial Gardens at 10 a.m.  Unfortunately, due to current circumstance, limited guests are able to come pay their respects; however Bob’s family is aware how much all of his friends and family cared for him. You may also watch the service on-line at the link below.    In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your favorite charity in his honor.
