Kathryn L. Miller

March 2, 1943 — April 6, 2020

Kathryn Lynn Miller, age 77, went home to the Lord on April 6, 2020, due to natural causes.

Kathy, affectionately known as “Katbird,” was born March 2, 1943 to Reginald and Margaret “Ruth” Sipes in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the 2nd of 4 children born to the couple. The family soon moved to Kansas City, Kansas, then transferred to Indiana. Kathy graduated from Franklin High School in 1961 where she was crowned Homecoming Queen.

The family then moved to Overland Park, Kansas, and shortly thereafter Kathy married her neighbor and former KCK childhood sweetheart, Carl F. Cossairt. As a military family, they moved often, but eventually settled in Overland Park. It was there they celebrated the births of their 3 boys while enduring 3 tours of duty in Vietnam, until Carl’s untimely death in 1976.

In 1979, Kathy married Daryl Miller, the indisputable love of her life. They not only loved each other in a way that was enviable by others, but they also loved each other’s children as their own. The manner in which they treated one another - with such kindness and respect, serves as a model to those who will, undoubtedly, continue to admire the bond they shared.

After 20 years, Kathy retired from Marley Cooling Tower. She continued to support and volunteer as a member of the local V.F.W. and American Legion Posts, where she loved spending time with her family of friends. Her favorite activities, however, were those she enjoyed with her children and grandchildren.

Kathy was preceded in death by her first husband of 12 years, MSGT Carl F. Cossairt, parents Reginald and Margaret Sipes, and sons Chad M. Cossairt and James W. Cossairt.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Daryl D. Miller, eldest son Mark A. Cossairt, daughter-in-law Tonya Cossairt, Darla Ricci, Linda (Dary) O'Rourke, Martha (George) Weaver, Michael (Stacy) Miller, Dewayne Miller, brother Reginald (Judy) Sipes, sister Margaret (Barney) Lowery, sister Elizabeth (Bill) Brinton, as well as 13 Cousins, 4 Nieces, 4 Nephews, 25 Grandchildren and 20 Great-grandchildren.

Kathy was a kind, witty, generous, and loving soul, who was beloved by so many. She will be dearly missed, but will remain in our hearts forever.

A Celebration of Life will be held to honor Kathy’s memory; date to be announced at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to "Guns 'N Hoses" motorcycle ride in honor of Kathryn Miller and James Cossairt at https:// www.kcgunsnhosesride.org
