Kevin Cummings

November 6, 1987 — September 18, 2022

Overland Park

Kevin Joseph Cummings passed away on the morning of September 18, 2022 at home.

Kevin was born on November 6, 1987 in Overland Park, Kansas to Larry and Gale (Gallagher) Cummings. He was so many things to so many people - a loving son, a beloved brother, the most amazing Uncle Dude, and the best friend you could ask for according to so many.

Kevin graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School in 2006. Following high school, Kevin attended Johnson County Community College where he earned an associate’s degree. He then went to the University of Kansas, where his original poem was chosen to be published by a former Kansas poet laureate. Kevin worked a variety of different jobs, but he had found his place working as a tax examiner at the IRS in Kansas City, where he made so many great friends out of colleagues.

Kevin was a man of many hobbies, interests, and passions. He was a quintessential “car guy” and a true music buff that could enjoy any genre for the right song. He tinkered with the guitar and was so proud of his collection. Like most men his age, he could spend hours playing his favorite video games. He had a talent in the kitchen, even if his family thought he added too much garlic to just about every dish he cooked. But absolutely everyone would drop everything for a bite of his “World Famous Uncle Dude’s Pancakes”. There were so many other things Kevin enjoyed - Harry Potter, Pokemon, anime, trips to Universal Studios in Florida, an inappropriate joke, and a cold beer in his pajama pants at the end of the day.

More than anything, Kevin loved his family, his friends, and his dog, Chloe, fiercely without condition.

Kevin leaves behind his parents, Larry and Gale Cummings, of Overland Park, Kansas, and a sister, Stacey Sales, her husband, Adam, and their son, Andrew, of Olathe, Kansas. He is loved and missed beyond measure or words by all of them.

In lieu of flowers or donations, do as Kevin would and go hug your favorite people, remember life is short, put on your favorite bandana, go buy your favorite albums, and love life every single day. It's what Kevin would have wanted for all of us.

The family would like to send the deepest gratitude to all of the many friends and family that have reached out with love, kind words, and stories of Kevin during this incredibly difficult time.
