MARTHA JANE WHITHORNE

Martha Jane Whithorne, 90, passed away on March 25th at Forest Creek Memory Care surrounded by the love of her family.

Martha Jane was born on August 20, 1929 to Elvene and John Willard.  She was the last surviving child of 6.  She met the love of her life, John Whithorne at Union Station in Kansas City, MO.  After a brief romance, they were married June 11, 1945.  They had four daughters over four decades, so they raised children for over 40 years.  Martha was a homemaker as well as worked outside the home.  She retired from Sprint in 1997.

Martha Jane was the hostess with the mostest, some even called her Martha Stewart.  She enjoyed trying new recipes, decorating and flower arranging. She always loved a wedding. She was known for her fried chicken, mac-n-cheese, peach cobbler and, of course, her divinity.  She always made everyone feel welcome and included.  Her laugh was notable and infectious.  She was a bit feisty and willing to let you know what she thought.

Martha Jane was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and woman.  She was the strong matriarch of our family.  A kind giving soul that was always there for her family.  She taught her daughters to be strong women.  She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by many.

Martha Jane was preceded in death by her loving husband John Whithorne and daughter Denise Whithorne.

She is survived by her daughters, Irene Moore of Louisburg, KS, Lori Schmidt (James) of Kansas City, KS and Stacy Bersbach (Michael) of Olathe, KS.  10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. And her best friend and niece Janice Cunningham.

The family would like to thank the staff at Forest Creek Memory Care for the safe and loving home they provided for Martha.

A private visitation and internment will be held for the family due to current public health guidelines.
