Naomi Turk

November 25, 1925 — November 13, 2020

Naomi Turk, 94, went home to be with her Lord and Savior at the Shawnee Gardens Care Center on November 13, 2020.  She was born Naomi Stroud on November 25, 1925 in Weatherford, Texas, to Lewis and Susie Stroud.

Naomi spent her childhood in Weatherford Texas and graduated from Weatherford High School.  She met her husband of 71 years, Louis R. Turk, while he was home on leave from the Marine Corps and came to Weatherford to visit his brother.  Louis was injured in the battle of Iwo Jima and released shortly before the war ended.  Louis and Naomi were married on July 29, 1945 and moved to Kansas City, Kansas where they lived most of their married life.  Naomi was a faithful partner to Louis and helped him organize several churches including Haven Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas, Trinity Baptist Church in Merriam, Kansas, and Clearview Baptist Church in Desoto, Kansas.  Naomi was an avid gardener and loved working in her large vegetable and flower beds.  She was considered the best cook in the world by her family and shared her table with many people who were fortunate to experience her generous hospitality.  Her family will never forget all the Thanksgivings meals she prepared through the years, requiring nothing from them but a hardy appetite.

Naomi is survived by her three children, Louis A. Turk and Cheryle of Oklahoma City, Daniel Turk and Elise of Garland, Texas, Nelda Dale and Allen of Shawnee, Kansas, 15 of her 17 grandchildren, 46 great - grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.  She is also survived by a sister, Ola Culwell of Paradise, Texas, and a brother, Norris Stroud of Arlington, Texas.  She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be a private family graveside ceremony.
