Nonavee Howard

March 6, 1936 — October 20, 2019

Nonavee A. Howard was 83 years old upon her death and was born on March 6, 1936 in Manhattan, KS. daughter of Kenneth and Bernadene Taylor. She graduated with an Associate’s Degree from Brown Mackie College, Salina, KS.

She first worked at the USDA in Topeka, KS where she met her future husband Marlin Howard whom she married in1957. Once married they moved to Colorado Springs, CO., where she was employed by the US Air Force as an Administrative Support Assistant. After moving to Overbrook, KS she was a homemaker and worked at First Security Bank.

She had a passion for traveling and is well known for having to listen to Marlin’s jokes, often shaking her head in dismay. She enjoyed the multiple hours painting and spending time with her painting club friends in Overbrook. She was a very proud Kansan and always made sure that family members received the Kansas Calendar each year.

She will be most remembered by her passion for supporting her family through thick and thin and a rabid college basketball fan, yes she’d watch Midnight Madness and the NCAA Basketball Tournament every year. She especially loved KU Basketball and yelling at the TV and Bill Self for his lack of coaching when it counted. We often shook our heads and laughed about that. She was always fond of Colorado and seeing the fall colors that are unique because of the golden aspens that paint the mountains with shades of gold and yellow each autumn. Lastly her favorite time of year was Christmas, family coming together, shopping for presents and decorating the house.

Nonavee is survived by her son Mark Howard and his companion Colette Tesar, her daughter Marla McCain and her husband James, grandchildren, Michael and Alex Howard and Taylor McCain. She also leaves behind many cousins and close life-long friends.
