Orville Witthoeft

May 10, 1955 — August 9, 2020

Overland Park, Kansas

Orville Witthoeft Jr, 65, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his
family on Sunday, August 9, 2020 in Overland Park, KS.

Orv was born on May 10, 1955 in Chicago, IL to Orville Sr and Audrey (nee
Crumrine).  The family moved a couple times, but eventually settled in Sioux
Falls, South Dakota.  At Washington High School, Orv met his first wife, Mary
(nee Glenn), married in 1974.  Orv moved to Kansas City in 1973 so he could
pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering at the Missouri Institute of
Technology.  In 1976, a son, Michael, entered the picture.  After graduating in
1976, Orv quickly found work at a local company, Applied Micro Technology,
where he stayed for many years before starting his own company, Avatar
Engineering.  Orv lost Mary to cancer in 2001.  A few years later, Orv met his
second love Sally (nee Gradinjan) and they married in 2009 until his death.

Although an only child, Orv left this world as part of a large, extended
family. Through Mary, he became part of the Glenn clan and remained close to
them his whole life.  After his marriage to Sally, he became grandpa to five
grandchildren who loved him very much.

Orv was a life-long bowler and at various times a hunter, a golfer, and a
fisherman.  He was an excellent cook and a master at the grill.  He loved rock
and roll music, going to many concerts.  The son of a truck driver, Orv liked
to be on the road, either driving the family to a far-away vacation, or just
for the fun of it.  He was also a sports fan, supporting the Chiefs and the
Royals.

Orv had many friends.  If you met him once, you liked him.  And if you met him
again, you loved him.  He had an easy going personality focusing on the good
parts of life.  He would often be at the local watering hole, "shootin' the
shit".  If you heard Orv say, "Life is good", you knew it was.

Orv is survived by his wife, Sally, his son, Michael, and daughter-in-law,
Hong.  He is survived by Mary's sister Sharon, and brothers John, Joe, and
James.  He is also survived by Sally's daughters Andrea (Joe) McConnell and
Whitney (Justin) Schelstrate and grandchildren Roxanne, Zeppelin, Brantley,
Lucia, and Wesley.

The family will have a celebration of life for Orv at Freddy T's on Friday,
August 14 at 4 PM.  Orv was a big supporter of cancer charities.  If desired,
friends may make a donation to Camp Kesem KU on his behalf.
