Thomas J. "TJ" Nidiffer

July 7, 1927 — October 10, 2021

Dr. Thomas J. Nidiffer, 94, passed away due to natural cause on October 10, 2021. As a loving husband, father and trusted friend, he leaves behind his daughters, Cyndi and Debbie Nidiffer and Mollie Drew, his granddaughter Ashley Sweren and great grandchildren Nora and Nathan (Nash) Sweren.

Dr. Thomas J. (T.J.) Nidiffer’s life began in the hills of East Tennessee, one of humble beginnings. As a young boy, he spent summers with his Grandmother, Rosa Nidiffer, on her apple orchard.  She would become a strong, spiritual influence throughout his life.

His educational/post graduate training began at East Tennessee State, where he held the 4.6 mile in track for several years. T.J. often shared that track taught him focus, endurance, and a sense of determination. This educational journey earned him a D.D.S. from the University of Tenn. Residencies followed in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Anesthesiology with a residency in Orthognathic Surgery from Mayo Clinic.

In 1954, T.J. and Loraine, the love of his life, traveled to Kansas City to put down roots for a 39yr surgical practice which spans 28,000 cases. This midwestern practice provided the springboard for the professional and spiritual endeavors, throughout his life. CynDeb Acres, his Brangus ranch, provided a special diversification…getting back in touch with nature. As a rancher, he raised Brangus cattle, often competing in the American Royal.

T.J.’s cutting-edge surgical procedures granted him numerous awards/honors throughout his distinguished career. A selected few are listed below:

  • President, American College of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons
  • President, Kansas State Dental Association
  • Board of Regents, American College, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons
  • Board & Chair of Strategic Planning Committee, Shawnee Mission Medical Center
  • Board, United Kansas Bank
  • Hall of Fame, Brangus Cattle Association
  • Chair, Dad’s Committee, Stephens College

International professional societies brought unique learning opportunities through the International Assoc of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, British Assoc of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, coupled with England’s Society for the Advancement of Anesthesia in Dentistry and International Congress of Oral Implantologists.

His leadership as Chair, Deacon Board for Prairie Baptist Church led them through their strategic planning process and construction for a new sanctuary. His wife, Loraine, served on the Board of Central Baptist Seminary. As a couple, the gift of spiritual leadership underscored their values.
