Bonnie Dickinson

October 11, 1925 — June 22, 2018

Bonnie Marie Dickinson, 92, Overland Park passed away on Friday June 22, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.  Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 Monday June 25th at the Johnson Country Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf.  A service to celebrate Bonnie’s life will be 1:00pm Tuesday at Hillcrest Covenant Church 8801 Nall Ave.  Interment will follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.

Bonnie grew up in the Ozark Mountains near Richland, MO with her two siblings.  In high school she played the drums in the school band just so she could travel.   She also played the piano and entertained the family often with her boogie woogie ragtime.  In 1947, she married the love of her life, Daniel, and started a family.  Her greatest joy was the open hospitality of her home and heart to family, friends, church and foreign students studying in the US.

She was an incredible cook who only once cooked a bad meal on her honeymoon of beans and weenies. She was a fierce competitor in all games and loved laughter.  She had a sharp mind for detail and wonderful storytelling of growing up in the Ozarks. She loved reading recipes and good books and was an avid fan of the Royals and the Chiefs. She was a very classy lady, loving and kind, quick witted with a sharp mind. Always curious, loved learning, especially about people and their families/cultures; absolutely loved Googling! She couldn't do it, but was always asking us to ask Google or Alexa a question!!

She had a steadfast faith and a love for her Lord and Savior.  She and her husband were actively involved in Hillcrest Covenant church, making it their church home since the mid 1960"s.  She cherished the friendship and fellowship and was particularly inspired by her Sunday school class.  Her faith sustained her till the end. As she struggled with her health, she held on to her hope.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Daniel R Dickinson.  She is survived by her five children: Jan George, Debbie Dickinson Coppola, Mona Gutowski (Pete), Daniel J Dickinson (Terry) and Mary Dickinson Cashin (Brian); her sister, Donna Lee Krutsinger; twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; Nieces & Nephews.

There is no greater gift in one’s life than the person that shows them how to love others.  Bonnie taught us all to love all.  She touched everyone that she came into contact with her twinkly blue eyes and a loving smile. She also had the unique ability to remember people's names and possessed that skill till the very last, surprising us all!!
