Hazel Ferdig

Hazel Marie Conner Ferdig, 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 28, 2018 at Olathe Hospice House in Olathe, Kansas.

Hazel Marie Conner, the daughter of Ancel Asbury and Carrie Jane (Haney) Conner, was born July 1, 1924 in McCracken, Kansas. She was the youngest and last of seven children born to Ancel and Carrie (Haney) Conner.

She grew up near Sparta, Missouri and graduated from Sparta High School.  After high school, Hazel worked in Kansas City where she met Bob Ferdig. They married in Kansas City on February 27, 1946.  Hazel and Bob moved to Mapleton, Iowa and later lived in Kiron and Odebolt, Iowa.  They owned & operated the Kiron and Odebolt Locker Plants for many years before retiring to Sparta, Missouri in 1977.

Hazel & Bob moved to Louisburg, Kansas in 1996 and in 2010 they made their final move to Silvercrest at Deer Creek Retirement Community in Overland Park, Kansas, where they enjoyed true retirement living. Hazel enjoyed reading and always appreciated a good book.  She belonged to the monthly book club at Silvercrest.

Hazel always looked forward to going to her school reunions in Sparta, Missouri.  Through the years, she was faithful in keeping records on all her classmates.  Hazel had impeccably beautiful handwriting.  She always made sure that there was a family photograph and a beautifully handwritten letter in her Christmas cards.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Bob L. Ferdig, her parents, siblings and son-in-law, Dr. Dennis Carrier.

She is survived by her son, Bob A. Ferdig, and wife, Kathy of Olathe, Kansas, daughter, Jane Carrier of Greenville, Texas; grandchildren, Dr. Brad Carrier of Greenville, Texas, Jud Ferdig of Shawnee, Kansas, Dr. Jennifer McWhorter and husband Matthew of Greenville, Texas, Kerri Miller of Olathe, Kansas; 5 great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews.
