Zoe Elizabeth Piper (Coiner) was born on September 8, 1929 to James Lewis and Clara Blanche Coiner. Zoe was born and raised in the Johnson County area and graduated with honors from Shawnee Mission High School in 1947. After graduation she worked as a secretary for Skelly Oil and on April 30, 1948, she married Michael Dewey Piper, Jr. Together they had three daughters, with the first of the girls passing as an infant. Zoe was a devoted mom to her girls and volunteered with their childhood activities. While raising her girls she held part time jobs including working from home. Her hobbies were sewing, quilting, genealogy research and in her younger years, was an excellent cook. She was very proud of her membership with the Daughter’s of the American Revolution and remained a member until her passing. In July, 2008, Zoe relocated to Muskegon, MI to be closer to her daughter, Sandy and her family. For over 8 years she resided at the Roosevelt Park Nursing home where she was a cherished resident.
Zoe is survived by her daughters, Sandy (Russ) Hilliard and Sharon Piper, granddaughter Ashley (Drew) Gavin, step-grandsons, Jeff (Trish) Hilliard and Adam (Hillary) Hilliard and their children. She is also survived by her six nieces and a nephew.
Zoe was preceded in death by her parents, sisters and brothers-in law Hallie and Everett Custer and Ruth and Leon Hedrick, brother and sister-in-law Ralph and Velma, former husband, Mike, and their daughter Kathryn.
Her services will be held at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, December 4th from 2-3:00 p.m. Visitation with the family will be from 1-2:00 prior to the service.
