Acia Morley

Acia Morley passed too soon from this fragile world into the endless beauty of the Universe early Sunday morning, February 2, 2025. She was sleeping peacefully at home with Milo, her son, and Nigel, her husband, by her side after a seven-month battle with cancer.

Born in Porterville, California, on August 30, 1965, to Mari Costales and Arthur Hall, Acia grew up there and on the coast. She rode horses on the beach, listened to the hits of the ‘70s on vinyl, and waited in line with her brother Erik Hall to be one of the first to see the release of Star Wars in Pismo Beach. While at Monache High School in Porterville, California, she played flute in the band and spent a full academic year as an exchange student in Japan. She graduated from Monache in 1983. Acia then began her degree in Philosophy and Religion at Point Loma College in San Diego, California.

At Point Loma, she met her future husband, Nigel Morley. They started dating in their sophomore year. After Acia graduated, they began their married life together in Porterville on August 29, 1987. They loved each other and were in love with each other. They were best friends, confidants, lovers, walking partners, movie buffs, chore buddies, and each other's champions throughout their life together. In 1988, they moved to Kansas City to attend Graduate School. Once she’d earned her master's, Acia had two enduring career passions — books and helping people who struggled in our society. So, part of her work life focused on books, like working in the seminary library, at a book shop in Merriam, and opening up Mysteryscape, her bookstore in downtown Overland Park, with a partner. Other jobs focused on service, such as her time as a caseworker, manager with United Services, and as a nurse aide in the Shawnee Mission School District.

The most joyful and meaningful part of her life started with the birth of Milo on May 16, 2002. She redefined her world around making Milo’s life as rich and full as possible. She deep-dived into all his interests, from Minecraft to Genshin Impact to Cosplay to Drag. Acia helped create impossibly intricate costumes, road-tripped to conventions, and cheered on at Milo’s performances. Acia’s love and talent for crochet, knitting, and sewing were refocused to add richness to Milo’s world. Her love for Milo was complete and unconditional. Acia was Milo’s greatest ally and supporter. And in turn, Milo’s presence in her life added unimaginable richness and delight.

Acia leaves behind her loving family, Nigel and Milo, her mother and father, Mari Costalles and Arthur Hall, and her brother, Erik Hall.
