Angela Tira Gravitt passed away peacefully at her home on September 14, 2025 surrounded by her family and friends. She was born February 24, 1972 to her parents Jim and Sandy Tira in St. Louis, Missouri. Angela’s family relocated to Overland Park, Kansas when she was very young. This is where she lived out the duration of her life.
Angela attended Shawnee Mission South High School and was an avid Jayhawk fan. She graduated from the University of Kansas in 1994 and later went on to get her MBA from Baker University. After graduating from KU Angela took the summer to tour Europe and gathered some amazing life experiences. Upon her return she and some friends decided to experience life on the west coast and moved to Pacific Grove, California. After some time, they decided Overland Park was home and returned. Back in Kansas City, Angela started a career at Sprint PCS and had a front row seat to the dawning of the wireless industry.
Angela met her husband Andy the summer of 1998 on the Country Club Plaza. They were happily married for 25 years. Prior to starting a family together, Angela and Andy enjoyed travelling to the Caribbean as well as Marco Island, Florida.
Through their 25 years together Angela and Andy raised their three children: Sarah, Kaitlyn and Matthew. Angela took great pride in her kids and enjoyed watching them flourish in their activities growing up. Her oldest, Sarah is an avid dancer and watching her shine on the OU Pom Squad brought Angela much joy. Kaitlyn announced on Christmas of 2023 that she would be attending Mizzou the following fall. The excitement captured in Angela’s eyes was priceless. She was so happy Kaitlyn found her place in the Alpha Phi sorority. She was able to make the trip to Columbia to see her room in the sorority house a few weeks ago. Matthew, a junior at Blue Valley High School, has been playing baseball most of his life. Angela loved watching him play through the years. Most recently she was able to watch him play on the varsity team last spring. The writing on a coffee cup she kept displayed said it best … “some women only dream of meeting their favorite baseball player, mine calls me Mom!”
As a years’ long member of the Blue Valley High School PTO executive council, Angela was deeply involved with our High School. This involvement and connection provided deep meaning and purpose which Angela relished … not to mention amazing relationships that were created over the years. Angela held those relationships dear.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents Martin and Kate Tira as well as Alexander and Anna Mae Frew. She is survived by her parents Jim and Sandy Tira, her husband Andy, her children Sarah, Kaitlyn and Matthew as well as her brother, Jim Tira, sister-in-law Maura Tira, and their three boys Barrett, Rory and Dean. She will be missed by all of her family and countless friends that were lucky enough to be a part of her life.
