Barbara Killion

Barbara H. Killion, 90, was born Feb. 25, 1930, in Lamoni, Iowa.   Her parents were Oren and Florence Hartschen.  Her family lived in several places including Platteville, Wisc; McGregor, Shenandoah, Red Oak and Oakland, Iowa and finally back in Lamoni, Iowa.

She graduated from Oakland High School in Oakland, Iowa and attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa.

She was married to Donald Killion in the Graceland College Chapel on May 1, 1949.  They lived in Omaha, Nebraska for a year before being transferred to the Kansas City area.  They lived in Kansas City, MO, Prairie Village, Overland Park and Lenexa, KS.

She was a loving mother and was active in scouting and PTA.  The Family were members of Cherokee Christian Church in Prairie Village for 58 years until the church closed in 2014.  She was a deacon, elder and active in women’s group.  She and Don joined Overland Park Christian Church in 2014.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Don Killion,  and their four children:  Mark Killion (Marilyn) of Olathe, Janette Edmonds (Tod) of Topeka, Marcia Turner (Bill) of Overland Park, KS and Julie Nestler (Dave) of Salem, South Carolina.  They have 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren with two more coming in October and January.  She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Kenneth Hartschen.

A visitation will be held from 6-8pm Wednesday September 30th at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS.   A private family graveside will be on Thursday October 1 at the Johnson County Memorial Gardens.

The family suggest contributions to Overland Park Christian Church, 7600 W. 75th Street, Overland Park, KS 66204 or to the charity of your choice.
