On November 17th, Barbara Leigh Vleisides passed peacefully after a valiant battle with MS. She was 72 years old. Born on June 17th, 1950 to William Chris Vleisides and Irene Helen Vleisides, Barbara came into the world with a best friend for life, her adored twin brother, Gregory William Vleisides.
Forever connected as twins and best friends their bond was sacred and unbreakable.
As a young girl Barbara loved music, dance, piano…she had many passions. Some of her favorite memories were traveling the world with her family. An adventurer and traveler at heart…she loved the discovery and joy of visiting new places but there wasn’t a place on earth Barbara loved more than HOME.
Barbara, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, graduated from the University of Kansas. After graduating Barbara enjoyed a long career as a hostess with TWA flying internationally.
In her 20s Barbara was diagnosed with MS. As a young, talented, beautiful woman she fearlessly faced her disease with tenacity and unending optimism. Barbara outlived her disease by 20 years.
Passionate about animal rescue and welfare, she loved her sweet dogs incredibly and gave them so much love!! She loved music, the arts, and was passionate about all the things she loved dearly.
Barbara had a smile warm like sunshine. Her long battle with MS required her to be tough. She never surrendered to her disease…she always persevered.
Barbara was loved deeply by those closest to her and she will be missed terribly.
Even when distance separates twins, they are never far from one another because they live in each other’s hearts. This was especially true for Barbara and Greg. These two unique souls united by birth have been joyfully reunited in heaven. Barbara is now home and as she said so often throughout her life… There’s no place like HOME.
Barbara was preceded in death by her twin brother: Gregory William Vleisides, parents: William Chris Vleisides & Irene Helen Vleisides, grandparents: Peter William Karos & Jenny Mae Karos, and Aunt Betty Mae Karos. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Dionysius Greek Orthodox Church.
