Westerman, Bernard Clifford ?Bernie,? 91, passed away January 28, 2007 at Catholic Care Center, Bel Aire, KS, where he and his wife had lived for the past 2 years.

He was born January 29, 1915 in KC, MO. During World War II, Bernie served 4 years in the Pacific as a Master Sergeant earning several medals and awards. At a young age, Bernie became interested in the coffee and tea industry and ultimately founded Westerman Brokerage Co. in K.C. selling to companies like J.A. Folger and Co. There he met Jean Kaufmann, who was working as a Spanish-English translator. They married in 1949 and had three children. Following their marriage, Bernie and Jean settled in Prairie Village, KS. where they lived for 54 years. He also loved Estes Park CO where they spent many summers.

He is survived by his wife Jean, of the home: a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Dave Stoskopf of El Dorado, KS and a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Karla Westerman of Simi Valley, CA; two grandsons, Matt Stoskopf of Leon, KS, Adam Stoskopf of Lenexa, KS, and one granddaughter, Julia Westerman of Simi Valley, Ca. He was preceded in death by his son John Westerman.

Services will be held Thursday, February 1, 2007 at St. Ann?s Catholic Church 7231 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS. Burial will follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas. A Memorial has been established in his name on behalf of St. Ann?s Catholic Church.
