Betty McGee

Betty Avalon McGee, 86, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2014 at West River Health Campus in Evansville, Indiana.  Betty was born January 25, 1928 in Madison, Kansas to Lemuel Franklin and Mary Eugene (Knapp) Sylvester.  She married Freelyn Carl McGee on November 24, 1948 in Kansas City, Kansas.  He preceded her in death on November 14, 2011.  Betty was a member of the Overland Park Baptist Church, Overland Park, Kansas.  She worked at Rodney Milling Company, Lees Secretarial Service and volunteered for 25 years at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.  Surviving is one daughter, Karen Stapp (Randy); daughter-in-law, Barbara Kuntz (Fred); sister, Mary Lynn Sylvester Bell (Kenton); four grandchildren, Patrick McGee (Megan), Kevin McGee, Kimberly Tetrick (Matthew) and Christopher Stapp; three great grandchildren, Claire Tetrick, Lillian Tetrick and Rylee McGee; and four nephews, Eric, Dennis, Joe and Tim Sylvester.  She was preceded in death by her son Gary McGee, brother Frank Sylvester and nephew Erin Sylvester. A funeral service will be held at 11AM Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park.  Visitation will begin at 10AM, also at the chapel.  Interment will be in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.   The family would like to thank West River Health Campus and a special friend Latrice Lawson.
