Carolyn left this life on July 2, 2026, in Olathe, KS. She was born on August 14, 1930, in North Kansas City, MO. She spent the last year of her life at Villa St. Francis, A Long-term care (LTC) facility in Olathe, KS. She lost her mother Selma, due to complications in child birth. Went through life wondering what her mother was like, finally getting to meeting her on July 2.
Her father was Carl Benson of North Kansas City.Raised in Tennessee and graduated Peabody High School in Trenton in 1948. After high school she moved back to Kansas City and lived with her Grandmother Maude and Aunt Alice her mother’s sister. Met Ted Coleman and they were married in 1954. Carolyn and Ted had two children Dan and David and raised them in Prairie Village, KS.Enjoyed reading and listening to Big Band Music. Liked to watch movies on her DVD player, especially any film that had John Wayne in it. Became a Kansas State football fan when Bill Snyder started coaching there (Cats, but no Chiefs).
Was very close to her sister-in-law Eleanor and considered her as a sister, they spoke to each other almost every day. Then in 1983, along came Amy, her little poodle and companion that filled some of the lonely times in her day.Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Ted and son Dave Coleman and Great Aunt Alice Paulson. Brother-in-law Jim Murray and sister-in-law Eleanor. Sister-in-law Mary Ann Benson and father Carl Benson.
She is survived by her son Dan and his partner Cynthia. She considered Cynthia’s family as her own. Leaving grandchildren Ginna, Tito &Timothy (Jen). Great-grandchildren, Chase (Chloe), Madison (Ava), M’Kenzie, Abby and Dominic.Brother, Bernard Benson, and his children Karen, Byron and Trish.Nieces and nephews: Pat Murray, Tim Murray (Christine), Kelly O'Connor (Andy), and Shiela Murray. She leaves also many cousins and friends. Want to thank the staff at Villa St. Francis for taking care of her the last year of her life, especially Jana. Also, a special thanks to her roommate Cecila.
