David C. Nelsen, 46, of Overland Park, KS, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2014.
He was born on May 20, 1968 to Sue and Ken Nelsen in Omaha, NE. David graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School in 1986, where he was a medalist in swimming in the state of Kansas. He attended Pittsburg State University then continued his education at University of Kansas where he majored in Exercise Science and graduated with a degree in education in 1990. He was also a proud member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Dave became a Life Flight Paramedic and a Respiratory Therapist and worked at St. Luke’s Health System from 1991 to 2001. He also worked in medical sales from 2001-2007. Dave continued to work as a Respiratory Therapist in the KC Metro area from 2007-2014.
He loved the outdoors: fishing, watersports, grilling, gardening and motorcycle riding. He was also an avid car enthusiast.
He is preceded in death by his father J. Ken Nelsen.
Dave is survived by his wife, Jane Nelsen; two sons, Private Kyle Nelsen and Brock Nelsen; stepson Julian Duff; his mother, Sue Nelsen; one sister, Julee Goodman and husband Eric, niece, Tate and nephew, Trent of Bradenton, FL.
Memorial Service will be at 4PM on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210. Family will receive friends from 3PM to 4PM on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at the chapel.
