Earl Dean

Earl A. Dean, a beloved man devoted to his family who took great pride in working 35 years without taking a sick day as an employee of Southwestern Bell, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2006 in the company of his family at the age of 90.

Mr. Dean, a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Kansas, was a catcher in the Ban Johnson League and an Army paratrooper in World War II before joining Southwestern Bell as a repairman and PBX installer. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. He coached teams in women?s softball and Little League baseball. He was a founding member of the Booster Club that built the Miege Stadium.

He was born on May 8, 1916 in Kansas City, Kansas. He attended Argentine High School where he lettered in football, basketball and track. He married Marcella Fox on June 30, 1951. She preceded him in death in 1996.

He is survived by two children, Kim White of Leawood, KS, and husband Jim; and Rick Dean of Blue Springs, MO, and wife Jill; a sister, Dorothy Phillips of Wheatland, MO; a brother, George Dean of Wichita, KS.; and four grandchildren, Chris and Kari Dean, Kristen and Kevin White and numerous nieces and nephews. He had an extended family of neighbors and friends who dearly loved their ?Poppy?. His strong spirit and love will be missed by all who knew him.

Funeral Mass will be held 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, December 26th at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 5250 Mission Road, Roeland Park, KS 66205. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. Visitation will be 10:30-12:00 P.M. Tuesday at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are encouraged to the Bishop Miege Foundation or St. Agnes Parish.
