Edith Irene Delventhal, born Edith Irene Eckhoff on March 4, 1928, in Sweet Springs, Missouri, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026, in Overland Park, Kansas. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and a faithful friend whose life was centered on family, faith, and service to others.
Edith grew up on her family’s farm in Sweet Springs, where she learned the value of hard work and developed a deep appreciation for family. She graduated from Sweet Springs High School in 1946. In October 1963, she and her husband, Richard William Delventhal, moved to Kansas City, Missouri, and later settled in Overland Park in 1967, where they built a home filled with love and lasting memories.
She worked for many years as a bookkeeper, including positions with TG & Y, Kansas City Power and Light, and Ford New Holland, where she retired in 1990. Edith was known for her strong work ethic, attention to detail, and quiet dedication.
Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life. Edith was committed to raising her family with strong Christian values and was actively involved in her church community. She sang in the Calvary Lutheran Church choir and enjoyed many years of fellowship through a Pinochle card club that she and Richard helped establish with fellow church members, a tradition that continued for over five decades.
Edith is survived by her beloved husband, Richard William Delventhal; her sons, Jon Alan Delventhal and Paul Richard Delventhal (Melody); her granddaughters, Emily Sandra Prothe (Justin) and Megan Irene Fleming (Nathan); and her great-granddaughter, Tatum Rae Prothe. She will be remembered for her kindness, steady presence, and the love she shared with those around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Frieda Eckhoff, and her brother, Elmer L. Eckhoff.
Visitation will be held on March 28, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Calvary Lutheran Church in Kansas City, Missouri, followed by a funeral service from 2:00 to 3:00 PM. A graveside service will take place on March 30, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs, Missouri.
Edith’s life was one of quiet strength, deep faith, and enduring love. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
