Eileen S. Hunt, 64, of Lansing, Kansas, passed away on November 6, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Eileen was strong, independent, loving, nurturing, and self-sacrificing. She built her life around her children and lived every day with quiet steadiness and a deep commitment to her family. She is survived by her three sons, David R. Hunt III, Devon Roarke Hunt, and Derek Ryan Hunt, who were her pride and joy.
Eileen spent more than 30 years serving as a civilian at Fort Leavenworth, where she was known for her reliability, her integrity, and her unwavering work ethic. Outside of work, she loved traveling to places like Branson, parks, and cruises, and she especially loved the simple joy of being with her children.
Eileen’s personality was marked by a gentle wit, introverted warmth, and a quiet reassurance that made everyone around her feel safe. She loved to read, loved the Kansas City Chiefs, and found peace in the springtime when the flowers in her yard began to bloom. Her famous spaghetti and meatballs, slow-cooked all day, became a beloved family staple. And every Thanksgiving, her boys looked forward to her pumpkin pie, a recipe so good she took it to the grave. She never wrote it down, and no one ever made it quite like she did.
She taught her children many things, often reminding them that “unforgiveness is a prison cell we put ourselves in” and “no one can make you mad but you.” These words shaped her sons and continue to guide them.
Her favorite way to relax after a long day was simply spending time with her children, playing games, laughing, and being together. She was a devoted mother, a provider, and a beautiful example of selfless love.
A celebration of Eileen’s life will be held on December 4th at 3:00 p.m. at Crossroads United Methodist Church, 101 E Gilman Rd, Lansing, Kansas 66043.
The family has chosen a cherished photo of Eileen at David’s wedding, with David and Devon kissing her on the cheek. It captures her tenderness, her joy, and the deep love she carried for her children.
Eileen leaves behind a legacy of strength, gentleness, and sacrificial love. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
